So I noticed in the new Starfield behind the scenes trailer that the text for the in-game memo one of the developers is typing was left unblurred. This, of course, could be totally fake and Bethesda trying to mislead us. That said, it’s filled with interesting info that’s sure to fuel a ton of speculation about how the various people and factions are laid out in the game, as well as the overall setting. So without delving into that speculation myself, here is the exact text of the memo as it appears in the video (unless I made any transcription errors).

Please be on alert

Pirates of the Crimson Fleet have extended far beyond the Krys system, and have established footholds in the Sagan, Cheyenne, Lunara, and Narlon systems. Both SysDef and the Vanguard are committed to ridding United Colonies space of these parasites.

This is clearly no longer just a Freestar Collective problem.

Also be advised that the “Crimson Fleet” is not a single organized entity or faction. Rather, it is a loose confederation of individual captains, all organized under the same banner.

Shown here is the symbol, or “jolly roger” they’ve adopted. Anyone displaying that symbol is assumed to be associated with the Crimson Fleet, and can be terminated at

Any questions should be addressed to Lieutenant John Tuala at MAST for the Vanguard, and Commander Kbwe Ikande aboard the UC Vigilance for SysDef.
